Beard Oil, How To Use.

Beard oil how to use

You have probably been told about Beard Oil, read it somewhere or seen it in your local supermarket, and perhaps thought 'Why on earth would somebody put oil on their Beard? Surely it feels horrible and is one big greasy mess all day long!'
Well, quite the opposite in fact.

Beard Oil, Why?

Beard hair tends to be rougher in texture than the hair on your head. Beard oil softens and adds shine to beard hair. It also tames scraggly hairs so that your entire beard looks neater and more styled.

Beard oil keeps the skin underneath your beard supple and healthy. It also reduces the occurrence of dandruff, itch & ingrown hairs.

Beard oil can make a scraggly beard look fuller and lusher. For this reason, some people use beard oil for hair growth.

Beard Oil smells good, really good, and can be used instead of cologne, lasting just as long, if not longer.

Arthur had this to say - 'I have a very “salt n pepper” beard and I find the salt (I embrace it)(Grey Hairs) is courser than the pepper (Black Hairs). So I oil up in the mornings after a shower and towel dry before I get ready for work. When I get home I have a wash and then I Beard Butter up. Keeps my beard soft and manageable which is needed because I work in a hot and dry environment (kitchen). I then add some Beard Butter before bedtime which has a back note lavender scent and this sends me straight to sleep.'

Beard oil how to use

A few people have asked, does beard oil encourage hair growth? Well, it hasn’t been scientifically proven that beard oil will help with beard growth. However, there’s anecdotal evidence that some of the essential oils and carrier oils used in beard oil may help support or promote beard hair growth. Think about it, if your applying natural ingredients full of nutrients, vitamins and good fatty acids to your beard and chin skin every day, it's going to be doing something good.

Beard oil is most effective when used as a moisturizer for the skin underneath your beard. You should start seeing an improvement in the condition and appearance of your skin and beard as soon as you start using beard oil.

Remember that all types of skin, including oily skin, need to be nourished and moisturized. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, try using a beard oil that contains essential oils with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. These include tea tree oil & cinnamon.

Beard Oil, How to use.

On the back of any beard oil, there should be specific instructions. However, here’s the most popular way people apply Beard Oil.

  1. Apply two to three drops of beard oil to your palm and rub your hands together to spread the oil around your palms and fingers. You may need more oil later, but it’s better to start with a small dose to avoid making your beard too greasy.
  2. Rub your palms and fingers across the hair on both your cheeks.
  3. Next, rub your hands down the front of your face so that it covers your moustache and chin.
  4. Go over your moustache again with your fingertips.
  5. Run a comb through your beard to evenly distribute the oil. Comb both with and against the growth of your hair.
  6. Apply more oil if you don’t feel like you’ve used enough. People with particularly long or dry beards are most likely to need more.
  7. Comb your beard back into place and groom it as you like.

Do not be afraid to hurt your beard oils feeling either, if you have applied too much and it's making a big mess, then be sure to grab a clean towel or flannel and pat your beard until the excess oil goes.

After all, practice makes perfect, and learning a new self-care routine always comes with experimenting and seeing which is the right way for you.

Beard oil how to use

When is the best time to apply Beard Oil?

The best time to apply your Beard Oil would be after a nice hot shower, or after giving your face a wash, So your skin and beard hair is nice and clean. Before applying the oil, dry your beard with a towel so that it’s damp but not wet.

You likely don’t need to apply beard oil every day. You can start by applying it every other day, and adjust it as needed. If you live in a particularly dry climate or have a longer beard, you may need to apply more often. Some people have told us they apply Beard Oil multiple times a day. It all depends on your body type and the climate in which you live.

One customer called Richard said these wise words - 'One of my top tips is to apply oil to a damp beard and comb through a couple of times. Leave it for about 5 mins then blow dry and comb through.'

This difference this makes vs putting it in a dry beard is unbelievable

If you notice your beard feels greasy, you can cut back on how often you apply oil. How is anybody going to grab your lush beard and kiss you if their hands just slip straight off? Unless you don't want that then maybe overuse is for you!

Is there a difference between Beard Oil and Beard Balm?

Beard oil, wax, and balms have similar functions but different textures. They can all offer the same moisturizing benefits but may change the way you style your beard.

Beard Oils are often made up of carrier oil and essential oils along with fragrances. It’s the most lightweight option and won’t weigh down your beard.

Beard Balms contain the same types of oils but have a thicker texture. They’re often recommended for men with fuller beards. Balms take longer to be absorbed than oils, so they have a longer-lasting effect. The extra weight of the balm may also help you style your beard and tame flyaway hairs.

Beard wax is the thickest option of all. Along with the carrier and essential oils, they also usually contain beeswax. This type of super hard wax gives it the ability to hold your beard in place when you’re trying to achieve a particular style, which many tend to enjoy doing. Wax may be your best option if you find your beard unruly or hard to manage.
